We continue to accomplish
this mission by hiring young women who have a sincere interest in serving as
role models while also having qualifications and skills to teach in one or more
of our 30 departments. Through more than 80 years of camping experience, we have
maintained a setting of excellence with beautiful stone and tile cabins that are
air-conditioned and feature private baths. We also take pride in the
high-quality activity equipment we provide, and most importantly, in our
experienced support staff who work hard to ensure an outstanding teaching and
learning experience for all.
Waldemar counselors live in
a kampong (a cabin) with seven campers who range in age from 9-16. Counselors
are considered the 'kampong mama' and are responsible for helping campers with
kampong cleaning duties, offering skit ideas and maintaining a healthy
environment in which the girls live. Other duties include teaching classes in at
least one skill area (ranges from land/water sports, to horseback riding, to
arts/crafts/theater) and acting as a table hostess during mealtimes. Counselor
enthusiasm and support of the campers is instrumental to their happiness and
growth.
By spending a summer at
Waldemar, college students can hone critical skills, such as team leadership,
workplace camaraderie, event planning, people and project management,
self-discipline and organization that will continue to benefit them no matter
what their chosen career path. All majors welcome and internships are available.
Successful counselors are
those who possess a genuine love for children, have sufficient knowledge to
teach in at least one of our many skill areas and a desire to spend the summer
in the out of doors.
