Adventures Cross Country

Adventures Cross-Country (ARCC) offers domestic and international summer adventure trips in over 15 countries and 5 western states throughout North America, Asia, Africa, South Pacific, Australia, Europe, Central and South America.

With 29 years of experience, ARCC students travel to a variety of the world's most spectacular locations and participate in activities such as community service projects, language schools, cultural immersion, backpacking, sailing, SCUBA diving, surfing, rafting, sea kayaking, zip-lining, rock climbing, mountaineering, glacier travel, ice climbing, and more!

ARCC offers 5 different types of Adventures:

1.  Global Action: Global Action programs focus on pressing issues affecting the communities we visit.  Students participate in a series of studies on important topics, such as interactions between humans and ecosystems, public health, sustainable development and cultural preservation.  Merging education and service, students examine the issues from multiple points of view and interact directly with those involved on all sides.  Students gain a global perspective on local issues and engage in the learning experience of a lifetime! Programs include: Galapagos Shark Study and Kenya/Zanzibar Wildlife Study.

2.  Community Service Adventures:  ARCC's Community Service Adventures offer a chance to give something back to the communities we visit while taking part in world-class adventure activities. Service sections include teaching English to local school children, caring for elephants/sea turtles/pandas, and building much needed facilities in rural villages. Adventures in Africa, Australia, California, China, Tibet, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Galapagos, Egypt, Fiji, Hawaii, Morocco, Spain, Turkey, Greece and Thailand.  Lodging will be in local guest-houses, small hotels, and occasionally camping.

3.  Language & Service Adventures:  Language Adventures are international programs where learning a language, exploring the culture, and getting off the beaten path are an integral part of the adventure.  Features time at accredited language schools working with native speakers, and working on community service projects.  Programs are in France, Spain, and Costa Rica.  Lodging is a mix of hotels, hostels, and village-hosted stays.  Time not in class will be spent exploring cities and participating in adventure activities like windsurfing, whitewater rafting, surfing and zip-lining.

4.  Multisport Adventures:  Our Multisport Adventures offer a range of activities like rafting, rock climbing, or sea kayaking, as well as overnight wilderness backpacking in North America and Europe. Curriculum focuses on individual development and group leadership. Multisport Adventures are suitable for both “first timers” and experienced students.  Lodging is predominantly camping in some of the most spectacular locations in Alaska, Costa Rica, Belize, Hawaii, Italy, France, Switzerland, Utah, and Colorado.

5.  GAP Year - Semester Programs:  Gap Year Semester Programs offer an educational and cultural bridge between high school and college and an opportunity to live, work, learn and explore in some of the greatest classrooms on earth.  Over the course of this academic journey, we examine five essential themes pertaining to our geographies: Public Health, Education and the Community, Urbanization and the Movement of Peoples, Environment and Conservation, Clean Water and Development, and Microfinance and Economic Growth.  ARCC offers GAP Fall Africa and Gap Spring Asia semesters.  Each program is an academic semester (3 months) and can be experienced independently or combined as a full year.
